Yes, acupuncture is generally very safe. Serious adverse effects are very rare (less than one per 10,000 treatments).

What adverse effects can acupuncture have?

Although acupuncture is a safe therapeutic technique, undesirable effects can occur, such as:

  • Drowsiness after treatment (driving is not recommended if this occurs);
  • Small temporary bruises or slight bleeding at the needle site;
  • Slight local pain and redness (during treatment);
  • A temporary worsening of complaints (less than 3%). You should let your therapist know about this, as it's usually a sign of a good prognosis.

In addition to these effects, others may occur depending on your clinical case.

What is cupping therapy?

It consists of applying fixed or movable suction cups to a specific area of the body during acute or chronic pathologies. This technique aims to purify the blood of toxins accumulated in the body by clearing energy and blood stasis. It is widely used to relieve muscle pain, back pain, abdominal pain, high blood pressure, poor blood circulation, cellulite and localized fat.

Wind therapy is also a complement to massage as it increases the flow of lymph, reduces edema, maintains muscle flexibility, removes fibrosis, mobilizes organ function, decongests energy blockages and activates circulation and the general functioning of the body.

What is herbal medicine?

As an integral part of Chinese Medicine, this 3,000-year-old science studies medicinal plants and their applications in the treatment of clinical pathologies. A Chinese herbal formula may include six or more plants, each with well-defined objectives. The way they work is to direct the main agents to the site of the pathology and prevent unwanted side effects.
In order to prescribe them correctly, it is essential to know the energetic, healing and synergistic actions of each plant, in order to create a Chinese herbal medicine formula and prescribe it according to its properties and actions.
In order to guarantee your total safety, Essence Prime Care works with recognized laboratories with pre-established commercial formulas.

What is Tui-Na Massage?

Tui-Na massage is a method of Chinese medicine that requires a prior diagnosis in order to identify and assess the energetic imbalances to be compensated for. This name, of Chinese origin, brings with it the vigorous nature of the practice of this therapeutic massage: "Tui" means to push and "Na" means to grasp. Based on the theories of vital energy, blood and organs, it is guided by the theory of meridians and collaterals, allowing for both therapeutic action and musculoskeletal relaxation.

Tui-Na massage has many benefits such as:

  • Skin - Stimulates and tones the skin by activating blood circulation, facilitating the elimination of toxins and giving the skin more radiance.
  • Blood and lymph circulation - Tui-Na's movements, percussions and frictions activate the circulation of organic fluids, particularly blood and lymph. Better blood circulation allows oxygen to be distributed in the tissues and toxins to be better eliminated.
  • Musculoskeletal system - Thanks to its stimulating action on fluid circulation, muscle fibers are quickly rid of toxins that cause fatigue, sprains, contractions and other associated pathologies.
  • Nervous system - One of the main functions of this system is to transmit orders to the different muscles, coordinate vital functions and manage sensory information. Tui-Na helps to calm this system, which is often overloaded by too many sensory stimuli, from stress and worry to panic attacks or depression.
  • Endocrine glands - Several endocrine glands are related to acupuncture points and, through them, stress and emotions act on the energy of the organs, weakening or depleting them. These points can be activated or harmonized in order to bring us closer to homeostasis.
What is Moxibustion?

The release of heat when burning the herb Artemisia Vulgaris has the properties of stimulating acupuncture points. The type of heat emanating together with the odors released have the ability to act on various pathologies and strengthen the circulation of energy and blood.
